What are the chances?

What are the chances of being at work and having a client come in that must go to the floor below the office to get something notarized. And, in order to get to the floor below the office, one must have a security pass, which the client does not have. But, I happen to have a said security pass. And, then, when I get to the elevator, what are the chances of, oh, say running into a friend from BYU that I had several classes with that I haven't seen in about five years....

Ya, I'd say the chances are pretty slim.

Oh, laser...

I always get nervous before my laser treatments 'cause the pain is never something I look forward to. There are some technicians that I prefer as well where there are others that enjoy yelps of pain from the clients.

Today I had a technician that I enjoy and the pain was much less than with other technicians. The best part, however, wasn't the lack of pain but was when she asked me if I had internet on my phone as she saw me catching up on some emails. She handed me a folded up index card with a link on it that she kept in her pocket. It was a link to a photo of her daughter so I could vote in one of those online kid contest.

Needless to say, I voted. And, the technicians technique of having her clients vote seems to be working. Yesterday she was ranked 795th. Today, 211.

There is a rumor going around...

8/24/2010

I always get a bit nervous when an Elder says to me, "So, there is a rumor going around that you..." I had to quickly ask what it was 'cause, let's be honest, if missionaries know something I don't then it is never a good thing.

Ya, apparently I was in a missionary training video which I had completely forgotten about. I remember the Mormon Message (good luck finding it. You won't :)) but completely spaced the training video.

(It was for a missionary driving video where I was a sister missionary demonstrating what NOT to do while your companion drives. I was apparently talking A LOT to my companion and was distracting her. I assured the missionaries that I'm not really like that. I'm not sure if they believed me.)

May I put you on hold?

8/23/2010

I actually found it pretty funny that, when calling a production company on behalf of a client, the production company rep conveniently did not put the phone on hold when she decided to go off on why the manager is calling. I was LOLing (inside at least) just because she was kinda being ridiculous. I was simply calling to ask a question and it was shoking to her that a manager would call. Sigh. Good times.

I'm a winner

8/22/2010

They give these tickets out at the grocery store. I found it fitting that I won thanks to matching the pasta symbols. And, I am now rolling in the dough.

Haiku of New York

New York, I love you.
But sometimes I need a break.
I will be back soon.

Oh, so welcoming

8/20/2010

I needed to do laundry this weekend which meant that I am at my brother's in Columbia, Maryland. I didn't expect to get such a welcoming. I walked in and noticed a picture of me by the door. I turned around and noticed three more. Then there was one more in the kitchen, one in the dining room, one in the bathroom, and one next to their bed. If it wasn't a joke I would have been really freaked out. It was almost nightmarish.

See if you can spot all 8 pictures.

I am not Agoraphobic.

8/19/2010

While at the gym, Dr. Oz was interviewing shut-ins. We all have those days where we don't want to go out or we simply just want to stay in so I thought it was something I should look into. Dr. Oz said that 1/5 people suffer from agoraphobia. I looked around the gym and out of the other four people that were there, it was clear that they didn't suffer from it. So, I figured I should take the test. If you answer yes to any of these, you could have agoraphobia:

*I avoid places that are crowded or that might be difficult to get out of (such as theaters, supermarkets, or elevators) because I am worried that I will panic.

(I thrive off of theaters, food is too important to me to avoid, and I'm too lazy not to take elevators)

*I avoid using public transportation such as buses, trains, or airplanes because I am worried that I will panic.

(Again, I'm too lazy to avoid public transportation)

*I avoid driving or riding in a car at least some of the time because I am worried that I will panic.

(Driving in cars is a stress reliever for me)

*I avoid situations like long lines, bridges, or being far from home because I am worried that I will panic.

(If this were the case I never would have moved to New York)

*I have to stay within a "safe zone" or specific distance from my home in case I panic.

(I'm always excited when I get to leave Manhattan)

So, you see, I am not agoraphobic.

But, I did learn that I am a hypochondriac.

Missed my stop

8/18/2010

I was going to meet some friends with another friend when I hear, at the stop we were suppose to get off on, "Ashley, can we ride the train one more stop? I want to read this poster."

I missed my stop because of this poster:

A life lesson learned

A key to getting to work on time. Go to bed before 1 am.

Just another Monday

8/16/2010

Today was pretty easy going at work. It was very welcoming after my exciting weekend. But, near the end of the work day I thought, "nothing noteworthy has happened. I have nothing to blog about!"

And then I walked outside.

Somewhere between 4 pm and 6 pm, a torrential downpour started. And, of course, the night before I had lent my umbrella to a friend. So, here I was, six blocks from my apartment in the worst rainstorm I had seen in awhile. I decided to just go for it.

With water pouring into my eyes, I booked it. The term "rain shower" has a whole new meaning. There were some smart people who decided to wait it out under various awnings. But my end point was so close...

I made it home after a very quick 8 minute walk. Needless to say, I'm glad I had some clean clothes to change into.

Whiter than usual

8/15/2010

I found myself in Harlem. I felt bit more white than usual. And really out of place.

On the way to the store...

8/14/2010

I was shot at, narrowly making a ferry in an attempt at escaping with the help of a taxi, thereafter running for five miles. And all I have to show for it is food. And some bruises.

Friends on Facebook

I always like having new people to contact with on Facebook, especially if they add me. Today I was so excited to receive a friend request. Probably the most exciting friend of ALL my friends on Facebook.

The Statue of Liberty.

Scaffolding

8/12/2010

Without fail I generally see some type of rodent where construction is being done. It is always so cute to see a little family of rats run right in front of you. Oh, so cute.

I might have posted this previously...

8/11/2010

But, seriously, one of my favorite things about the summer (being optimistic here about the mugginess of the city) is walking down the streets, walking by some store with the doors open and a whoosh of cold air comes out. Heavenly. Almost enough to actually go in and shop.

Maybe done on purpose? Hmmm....

Cherry Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi Cherry

8/10/2010

Yup, Diet Pepsi Cherry wins.

Sunburned day 3

The gym + burned shoulders DOES NOT = good times.

Circle of Life

8/8/2010

Several years ago when I set up my Hotmail account I was pretty into the whole Hotmail Live feature. I don't know when it was but as my status I wrote "Sunburned bad". I came across my status as I accidentally hit the home link instead of the mail link and thought the status was very fitting for today. Maybe in another five years I'll come across it again, again with a sunburn.

Rafting

8/7/2010

Went water rafting today. I learned I had muscles that I didn't know existed. I also learned that when one person isn't rowing then the others must compensate and row harder.

All-in-all, it was a great experience. The best part of the whole thing: definitely the yellow school bus ride to and from the river.

Che nostalgia.

Salt

8/6/2010

I know the reviews for Salt haven't been that great but I still want to see it. So, this past week I made plans to see it. Twice. Both times fell through including showing up at the theater and noticing the time listed online differed from the time at the theater. Maybe it is a sign not to see it. According to the critics, maybe I should actually take it as a sign...

Ben and Jerry's

8/5/2010

I found yet another grocery store that has Ben and Jerry's Half-baked Fro-Yo. I'm loving this city more and more.

Brittany,

8/4/2010

Just because I told you I didn't like Lady Gaga's Alejandro a few weeks ago doesn't mean I can't change my mind and like it. And don't think the change is because I know it is your favorite song. Maybe, just maybe, I like it for being good.

Oh, and I'm glad to hear Erin is back in the US of A. Hope your excursions in the British Isles were amazing!

2010 Family Wedding #2

8/3/2010

I realized that Brittany's wedding is only a few months away so I should work on getting a dress for her wedding. So, the other day I asked her what her colors are so I can start looking for a dress. I was so excited when she said her colors were white, silver, and black 'cause just last week I came across the perfect dress. I can't wait to wear it at her wedding.

Is it a formula?

If I have caffeine and shortly after drink some chamomile tea, do they cancel each other out?

Pesto

I'm Italian. Pesto runs in my veins.

Nostalgia

7/31/2010

I woke up this morning to a jackhammer working on the streets outside. For some reason I did not find this weird. And the lack of weirdness made it weird. And then I realized why it was so familiar.

I woke up to that every morning when I lived in Milan. Every morning. That city is constantly under construction.

Every morning.

Being an assistant

7/30/2010

I enjoy my job. It has become a game to see what I will be asked to do. Mind you, I have never been asked to do anything too wild. Usually I'm asked to call someone or do some research on something. I don't mind it at all. But, when a coworker has a moment to help me out, it is kinda nice to let him make the phone call. It's like I have my own assistant when I really don't.

Elevator at the gym

7/29/2010

Can someone please explain to me the logic of this concept: While at the gym, you run on a treadmill for an hour and then take the elevator downstairs instead of using the stairs which are located right next to the elevator. I seriously don't get it.
