Mac's Mail Program

I just realized you can organize your inbox folders other than alphabetically. This will greatly save me a lot of time.

And frustration.

A Happy Reunion

Went on a night run. And, thanks to Lady Gaga, I made it through successfully.

It had been awhile for both the run and Lady Gaga.

Inspector Gadget

I was walking on Sunset Boulevard and while walking pass a bar where several people were outside socializing, one guy began to sing the "Inspector Gadget" song. I was in a conversation so didn't put much attention into it. But I did wonder why he started doing that.

Until I walked by a window and saw what I was wearing.

Film Set

I'm a 1st AD on a film set this weekend for a class. Part of my job is to prepare the call sheet. In so doing, for reasons of safety, I have to look into finding the closest hospital just in case something should happen.

I googled some hospitals online and wanted to make sure they were open. I called the closest one:

"Hello, this is.... hospital."

"Yes, hi, I have a question. Are you open on Saturdays?"

"Honey, this is a hospital. We are always open."

And, there you go...

Do you feel better about yourself now?

Rosie blogged!

I'm so glad :)

Unexpected

During the shoot, the director went next door to see if the neighbors could turn off their air conditioner. It was making too much noise for our film.

I was nervous for him to ask. They could shut down our production at any time. We are always at the mercy of the neighbors. But, we still have to shoot our film.

I waited patiently as the air conditioner remained on.

And then it turned off.

And the director returned with a plate of cookies, homemade from the neighbor.

Today I successfully got from Fountain Valley to my apartment without the help of GPS.

Still waiting...

Yes, Rosie, I'm still waiting for a new blog post...

MA vs MFA

An MFA in Producing is much more demanding than an MA in Cinema Studies....

Procrastinating

Does it count as procrastinating if you don't realize you have a ten-page paper due until the night before?

Still waiting for Rosie...

I wish she would blog soon.

Dream Sequence

Every week or so we have to shoot a video as part of our assignments.
This week we have to do a dream sequence. It could be a literal dream
we had, something we want, or something we fear.

Being on set next to a huge rock where people rock climb makes me
realize: rock climbing is my fear. I don’t know how people haven’t
died today from climbing. I have had to look away several times.

The guy currently climbing keeps freaking me out. Earlier a guy was
solo climbing which meant he had no rope. He climbed straight up and
then straight down with nothing securing him.

Ya…

Home for less than 24 hours

The nice part was the flight took the same amount of time as a drive to LA would normally take me.

Back at it

I have two new nephews: Jaxon and Jacob. Both of which were blessed this weekend. I got to go.

I also took my laundry since I had a free bag on Jet Blue.

I’m good to go for another few weeks.

On Set

They say that every set has a different rhythm and a different feel to it. Even if you have the same position, you will do different things.

When shooting on location, outside, on the side of a rock, you have some down time. It’s nice to have something to do. Other than looking research.

But, of course, I didn’t consider that so I tried doing all my research online from my phone. It worked until my battery died. So, I plugged it in to my computer to charge. It was working great until something happened that had never happened before. The phone started flashing red and green. It flashes red when the battery is low and green when I have a notification. But both of them together was beyond me.

I felt my battery was hot so decided to shut the phone down.

It was a good thing too. The flashing green and red meant it would self-destruct in 5 minutes.

Winter in the OC

Today I wore long pants, boots and a jacket in preparation of the cold today. Granted, it was only 'cause they keep the building so cold. Good thing I like wearing fall/winter clothes.

Let's just hope it doesn't resort in me bringing my snow coat...

I bought a bike on Saturday. Yesterday was the first day I rode it to school (since yesterday was the first day of the week that I had classes). I was nervous but really enjoyed the ride.

Crazy Weather

Within seconds there was a hail storm followed by heavy rain. Within an hour the sky was clear and sunny.

(It's hard to see but you can at least hear the hail)

The surrounding areas

Went to LA/Hollywood three days in a row for various reasons. I’m starting to feel more comfortable with the area.

It was good though that I didn’t have to drive. The traffic still intimidates me...

Busy Week

2 dinners, 2 pitches and three trips to Hollywood/LA later... It was a busy week.

Dinner 1: with a few students and instructor Andy Lane (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0485229/) and filmmaker Betty Thomas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0858525/)

Dinner 2: with a few students and Dean Bob Bassette (http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/people/bob_bassett/), Janell Shearer (http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/people/janell_shearer/) and lawyer Howard Weitzman (http://www.kwikalaw.com/hweitzman).

Pitch 1: In front of instructor Madeline Warren (http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/people/madeline_warren/) and agent Nancy Nigrosh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Nigrosh).

Pitch 2: In front of instructor Ross Brown (http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/people/ross_brown/).

Missing New York

I've been gone a week now and I miss it. Luckily, I've been keeping busy enough that I haven't thought too much about it. But there have been a couple moments when it has hit me.

1. My roommate has the apartment to herself right now as she is waiting for her friend to return to New York. In the meantime, she is going home for a few weeks to visit her fam. Yesterday she posted on facebook that she was on her way home. My thought, "Oh ya, she is going to be home for two weeks. That will give me plenty of time to clean up the apartment until she gets back." Within seconds I responded to myself, "oh, wait..."

2. I noticed an app on my phone was missing. It only took me a second to figure out which one: the MTA app where it lists the subway maps and all the different lines. I use it fairly often to get around the city.

I have no idea why it was deleted off my homepage. I must have knocked it accidentally. Regardless, I was sad to remember that I really don't need it anymore.

I put it back on my homepage anyway.

Alaska

I'll give it to Alaska. It's beautiful when it isn't overcast.

10 points for Alaska

I found Pop Chips. In Alaska. One of my favorite treats from New York.

The day has arrived.

Sad, sad, sad, sad day.

Best. Last. Day. Ever: Food, friends, fun

8/6/2011

Saw Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Went to Rice to Riches.

Went to Mario Batali's Otto Enoteca Pizzeria. Pretty close to the real deal.

Helped a friend do some research.

Went to Shake Shack!

Hung-out with some of my favorite people.

I couldn't have asked for a better last day in New York City.

Last day working in New York City

8/5/2011

I've been training my replacement for two weeks. I feel she has a pretty good grasp of what is going on. I left her some helpful tips that should come in handy. And, I didn't want to make her feel too overwhelmed so I tried to handle everything I could have so she could start out on a fresh note.

Too bad I didn't finish everything like I would have hoped.

Sorry Debbie, you get to file everything I failed to file.

And that, my friends, is called procrastination. And there is literally nothing I can do other than hope she doesn't hate me for leaving what I disliked doing to her....

The Fashion World

8/4/2011

I work in the same building as fashion designer Nanette Lepore. So its no surprise to me when her employees are seen in her designs.

But what always makes things interesting is getting on the elevator where two of her employers are wearing the exact same dress that she designed. Their faces of shock, of "who does she think she is wearing the same dress as me" always makes me chuckle.

Always.

The tourists vs me

8/3/2011

The tourists left their hostel at the same time I left my apartment.

They took the elevator.

I took the stairs.

I won.

Dream Analysis part 2

Apparently my fear last night was letting my eyebrows grow without doing anything to them...

Monday, August 1, 2011

Dream Analysis

They say your dreams are the eye to your soul, where your fears are projected and how your subconscious speaks to you.

If that is the case, my biggest fears from last night's dream include my TV stand shattering, my computer being stolen, my dvd disappearing and having to be to work in ten minutes without being dressed.

Frankly, I didn't need a dream to tell me that...

Happy Birthday Harry Potter

Today is Harry Potter's birthday. The big 3-1.

In celebration, watch HP 7.

Oh, and have Hawaiian Haystacks (continuing with the Mormon theme. This time, focusing on the food.)

The Book of Mormon Musical

7/30/2011

I finally saw it. And I found it fitting to see during my Mormon themed weekend.

All I can say is: so great. Quick, funny, upbeat and, of course, inappropriate. Still, so great :)

Mormon Weekend

7/29/2011

I decided to have a theme this weekend. Mormonism.

Today's entertainment involved the movies of Richard Dutcher: Brigham City and States of Grace. The first was good storytelling. The second, better filmmaking visually.

LA and NYC

7/28/2011

I went to see Friends with Benefits. The show was alright. But, it was fun that it started off in New York, went to LA for a bit, and returned to New York.

I feel it could very well be prophecy of my life. Well, minus the friend with benefits part...

Competition on the train

7/27/2011

As I sat down on the train I heard "excuse me ladies and gentlemen, I hate to disturb you..." from the top of the train. At the same time, from the bottom, I heard "I had to bother you but I could really use some help...." I waited to see which one noticed the other beggar on the train.

The one from the bottom of the train heard the other first. Upon realization he cursed.

I wish he would have continued. I had actually seen the other guy begging before. Apparently he hasn't earned enough money to get back to Oregon yet...

Less than two weeks...

7/26/2011

I started training my replacement at work. The official countdown has begun.

Pretty Awesome

7/23/2011

(In response to Amy Winehouse's death, MSN did a photo essay of celebs gone too soon. At the end they publicized their next Wonderwall story about Snookie. But, the caption remained the same for the previous photo essay. Pretty awesome if you just look at what I saw without that context.)

Heat Wave 2011

7/22/2011

At 9:28 am it was 98 degrees. I'm so glad the office has air conditioning...

NYC-Restaurant Week

7/21/2011

Every few months New York has "Restaurant Week". They have a set price for a three course meal that allows poor... I mean, allows people to experience the food culture in the city, especially the high-end restaurants.

This week I took advantage of two places: Brasserie (French Cuisine) and Delmonico's (American Steakhouse). Both were delicious with a great atmosphere.

Even better, I knew Delmonico's was a big deal when I was watching Millionaire Matchmaker and she held a mixer at this 174 year-old restaurant.

I'm kinda excited. Just a few days until I order one...

I found out today Will and Grace comes on at 9 am.

Yet another thing that is going to get me to work later...

One last time

In Maryland.

Doing laundry.

One last time.

Google +

7/17/2011

Was introduced to Google + today. Still trying to decide my feelings towards it. For now, I'll enjoy playing around with it.

HP 7.2

7/16/2011

It is done.

I cried.

My toe still hurts a bit.

Preparing for HP 7.2

7/15/2011

I am a fan of Harry Potter. I've been looking forward to HP 7.2 for some time. Some friends did an HP marathon, watching one film a night. I was able to make all but 4 and 7.1. I watched 7.1 separately tonight in prep.

And now I'm ready for 7.2.

Broken Toe

7/14/2011

A chair jumped out at me from nowhere. It left a mark.

I thought I broke it. I couldn't walk. But, living in New York, it is impossible not to walk.

So I walked.

While walking, painfully, I felt a click in my foot. It didn't hurt after that.

But the bruise remains.

Can you guess which toe it was?

After two days: the color has gone down but the bruise has spread.

At least the bruise matched my toenail polish...

Hair anyone?

7/13/2011

Saw Hair on Broadway.

Lots of singing, dancing and...hair.

Running errands

7/12/2011

Today's errands consisted of shoe shopping and a mani/pedi.

Not the worst type of errands I could have done...

Saw this and thought of Mom

7/11/2011

Busy day

7/10/2011

I was given two days notice to give a talk in church.

I also had a Sunday School lesson to prep and give.

It was a busy day.

Luckily not a ton of people were at church.

New York moving always amazes me

7/9/2011

Finally we are catching up to the European Train system

And now we can have actual phone conversations.

Social Media

7/6/2011

Social media has changed my life. Thanks to Facebook, Skype, email, and other websites, I have met several people I will be going to school with and am almost done with finding housing for when I move to CA.

I love social media.

Thanks to the Holiday

7/5/2011

I went into work today instead. It was a good thing too.

So much to do when a new client comes in...

Two Announcements

Shortly I will no longer be posting one blog per day. I will be going back to school and my schedule will be somewhat rigorous. Therefore, I have decided that I will post when I can but will not be held down by my one-post-per-day rule. I have enjoyed it however.

This does not mean you avid readers will not continue to be entertained.

It is my privilege to introduce Brittany's blog. Essentially we are one person anyone, so for the days that I don't post, look to her blog for continuous entertainment.

5 am wake up call

7/1/2011

Beyonce held a free concert in Central Park. I woke up at 5 am to go. Too bad that was too late.

I still got to participate in the festivities. She sure has some crazy and devoted fans. The following videos don't even give justice to the events at hand.

***************************************************************************************

Shortly after people broke the police barriers

This guy climbed the tree to get a better view. He got more cheers than Beyonce did.

Looking at the stage, people breaking the barrier and being escorted away.

Although difficult to understand, you can hear the music. Fans cheering as well.

My response, "How much?"

Farewell

Hudson Run: Part II

With a welcomed 67 degrees, I was able to do it again. Thanks to Lady Gaga.

It's all relative

6/22/2011

A coworker was printing some documents when the printer jammed. She ripped the paper out but a two inch square was left in. It became difficult to print after that.

Our IT guy took the printer apart and couldn't reach it. He had me come over and showed me the paper that was stuck but couldn't be pulled out. He had tried everything.

I thought it was hilarious how such a small amount of paper was creating such a big deal. I said that out loud.

He sternly looked at me, "No, it isn't."

I quickly went back to my desk.

Pros and cons to being a twin

I was asked the top 5 pros and top 5 cons of being a twin by a friend. I could only come up with two. Brittany's response was better.

Pros
1. No need for a mirrors.
2. I have more clothes options.
3. I know twice as many people by association.
4. People recognize me more often.
5. It's always a conversation starter.

Cons
1. I'm stuck looking like 'that'.
2. I cannot be disassociated from 'her'.
3. People think I'm their best friend just cause they know 'her'.
4. I don't know half the people who know me.
5. And it always creates awkward moments in conversations when I respond to the inevitable question 'what's it like being a twin' by saying, I don't know, answer me this first: what's it like being ugly? You don't know the answer to that cause it's always how it's been. It's normal for you.

Getting ready for Part II

6/20/2011

In preparation, I visited the Harry Potter Exhibit. Now I'm even more excited for Part II to come out.

(Photos aren't allowed in the exhibit so I stole these from the internet)

Thanks to Netflix...

6/19/2011

Netflix has an array of things to watch. I really enjoy the Television shows they have on as they are shorter than movies so don't take up as much time. But, I can stay interested by watching an episode here and an episode there.

One such show I watched is Drop Dead Diva. The second season premiered tonight.

So, thanks to Netflix, I have now changed mediums from internet streaming to watching the show when it is first broadcasted on Television. What an ideal consumer I am...

Sports Night

And I've found yet another Aaron Sorkin show on Netflix that I am addicted to...

It only took me a week to get through the first season. It took that long because for two days I was not able to stream it due to a Netflix glitch.

The Frying Pan

Nostalgia

6/16/2011

Last week I had an experience that has stayed with me. For the entire week. And I have proof of the experience.

There is a first for everything

6/15/2011

There is no laundromat close enough to my apartment for me to do it. So I call out for it. But, I decided to do it, just once, to say that I did my laundry in New York. Pictures were taken to celebrate. Including the ride in the taxi.

East Coast Time Zone

6/11/2011

I always look forward to when Brittany is on the East Coast so our hours are more similar.

I would be more if she emailed me.

Paperless

6/10/2011

Our office is going paperless. This means we are trying to avoid any type of paper forms. This includes scanning checks and digitally depositing them.

This also includes me working yet another machine. The person most technologically-incapable.

Well, at least it gives everyone a laugh in the office.

Prepping for CA

I went on a run this morning on the Hudson. Let me emphasize this MORNING.

OUTSIDE.

BY THE WATER.

RUNNING.

Probably the best run I've had in awhile, if not ever.

Wrong Number

6/8/2011

We had another person call for the Garden of Eden. I was ready this time. I responded, "yes, this is the Garden of Eden. Eve speaking."

Yo-Yo Ma vs Mr. Wong

6/7/2011

I went to see Yo-Yo Ma at Central Park for free but didn't get into the venue as their were so many people.

That's okay, though, 'cause Mr. Wong was just as entertaining. See, Mr. Wong is a professor at either Columbia or Julliard. He was seated on the Subway when I got on and sat next to him. A white-American family with two girls in their twenties got on and the mom recognized Mr. Wong and started chatting with him. In Chinese of course. After a while the Mom introduced her daughter Chelsea to Mr. Wong, who then said he would help Chelsea find a job or internship. Everyone was elated.

After a stop or two they got off and it was just me and Mr. Wong. He turned to me, pulled out a pamphlet from his briefcase and gave it to me. It was for a Chinese dancing performance at Lincoln Center (that actually really looked cool).

So, you see, even though Yo-Yo Ma and I couldn't spend time together, I was able to spend time with Mr. Wong.

Definitely quality time also.

I've always wanted to see their office...

6/6/2011

We have a client who's office is on the corner of my street. I have had a desire to see what their office looks like. Today I got the chance. I had several things to send to them and it made sense to drop it off myself on my way home rather than call a messenger.

Too bad they had a receptionist that took anything for the collective office. Including theirs.

Me vs Mango Sorbet

The Sorbet won. I even have the cut and drawn blood to prove it.

I'm pretty sure I caused a car accident

6/4/2011

As I was walking, I noticed the sun going down to the West. I had to take a picture.

Literally seconds after I took this picture two taxis were in a fender bender in the intersection in the picture.

Subway experience

While on the Subway I read the newspaper over the shoulder of a lady. She was reading an article called "Upper East Side Heat Swoon: Death fall on subway." The location of the picture was 77th and Lexington.

And that was the stop I was to get off at.

P.S. In preparing for this blog I typed the title of the article and the location on my phone. I did it in a text to Brittany because that was the easiest and quickest program I could open. I asked her to email me the following:

Metro paper. Today. Upper east side heat swoon. Death fall on Subway. 77th and Lexington.

Her response:

Please tell me that wasn't a suicide note.

P.P.S. Add in that when I got off the Subway, there was the Lenox Hill Hospital Emergency Entrance.

I never knew 77th and Lexington would provide so much drama in my life.

While at the gym...

6/2/2011

An episode of SNL was on. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did the weekend update. Bush was still president and Anna Nicole Smith was still alive.

I tried for the life of me to figure out where I would have been. And then they did a story on the Olympics in Torino getting ready to end.

Thanks, Tina and Amy, for reminding me that I was in Italy the weekend the episode originally aired.

Good times.

Good times.

Waking up

6/1/2011

I randomly woke up at 5:45 am. The sun was out. My first thought was, "is this what it feels like to live in Alaska?"

Summer Time

Exactly two weeks ago I posted a blog about taking walks now that it is Spring.

Update:

Walks are once again horrendous thanks to the heat.

I love (hint the sarcasm) that Spring is so short in New York.

Memorial Day

5/30/2011

In celebration of the Holiday I had hoped to kiss a sailor.

Too bad there were no sailors around.

Not even in Time Square.

Sigh.... Maybe next year.

Being Prepared

I wasn't sure if the Bishopric was planning on me teaching Sunday School today. We are starting on Temple and Family History and had yet to make an announcement in church. For some reason, though, I felt to prepare a lesson anyway.

One of the bishopric came up to me after sacrament and asked if we could start the lessons next week as a lot of people were out of town. I was just fine with that. So I went to the large Sunday School class instead.

And then I found out there was no teacher for the large Sunday School class. The same bishopric member asked me if I could teach.

Good thing I prepared a lesson. Although my lesson was specifically for six individuals.

Adding an additional 25 wasn't that much more of a difference I suppose...

Good to know

5/27/2011

Metrocards expire.

Even if they have money still on it.

What a relief

I'm so glad all the season finales have taken place. I can get back to feeling no pressure of missing an episode.

Change in routine

5/25/2011

My coworkers and I are positioned in such a way that our four decks are behind one another. Mine is in front so everyone faces my back. This allows my coworkers to really take in the back of my head.

And my hair.

My coworker asked if I changed my shampoo. I did. Thanks to my mom. Who left her shampoo here after she and Chelsea left.

Apparently my hair is more shinny and has more volume.

Thanks, Mom!

A walk on the Hudson

It is finally the time to start the walks again.

Hello, Spring in New York.

A ringing in my ears

5/23/2011

Around 5 o'clock someone hit the alarm in the elevator.

It kept going until I left work.

At seven.

Ugh.

Happy Doomsday.

See you tomorrow.

Doomsday: Part I

I decided to get caught up with my blog posts in preparation for the end of the world.

Catch Me If You Can

5/19/2011

We went to Catch Me If You Can. Luckily for us, Frank Abignale, Jr. came out after for a talk-back.

Here he is handing me my newly-autographed Playbill.

Commencement

5/18/2011

Only thing to do when in line and waiting for commencement to start: take pictures.

So much purple...

Empire State Building

5/17/2011

The Empire State Building shines white and purple for NYU graduates every year around graduation.

Thanks to the weather, the sky was just purple.

I Graduated. You may now call me Master Ashley.

5/16/2011

I turned in my final paper.

Go me.

And Brittany.

Mom and her great timing as all the graduates names were scrolling.

Thanks to Mom and Chelsea for coming to celebrate with me!
