Caption Needed

My friend snapped this picture of me mid-sentence during dinner the other day. I can't remember what we were discussing. I figured everyone else could help me remember...

How did the world exist before the Internet?

6/28/2010

I arrived at work today to find that our Internet and network went out over the weekend. My boss had been trying to figure it out for almost two hours even before I got to work. There was not much I could do since I couldn't access my contacts or phone numbers. I could not even make labels because the formatted document is located on the network.

It was weird.

So, while waiting I went and dropped some stuff off at the post office.

Terry wasn't there.

Optimism

6/27/2010

Summer is officially here in New York. And, I have decided to be optimistic. So, even though it is hot, it makes being inside so much more enjoyable. I have never appreciated Air Conditioning as I do now.

Oops...

6/26/2010

I have a summer fear. It usually includes some pair of shoes breaking while I am so far from home where I can't change. So, it was ironic that yesterday my boss told me that it happened to her. Luckily, she had an extra pair in her car which was able to get her to work.

I found it even more ironic that my shoe broke today. I knew it was going to happen as well. And I will miss them.

My friend actually stepped on my shoe while we were walking and that is how the sandals broke. But, it is okay 'cause he then fixed our Air Conditioner so I felt like it was good payment.

Telemarketers

6/25/2010

We get telemarketers calling our office constantly. I have to politely tell them that we are not interested. I know what it is like to work and be rejected.

Yes, I worked as a telemarketer for 28 days when I was a Sophomore in college. And, yes, if I would have waited another 2 days I would have received a $100 bonus. But quiting was more important as I had found another job.

So, I know what it is like to work and be rejected. I try to at least let them know I listened to what they had to say.

But after five minutes I politely say that I have to go. And that usually ends the call.

Laser

6/24/2010

It is no secret that I do laser hair removal. I would recommend it. I would also strongly recommend against it if you have any fear of pain.

I wasn't a fan of the girl who lasered me. She was a bit cold and distant.

But something happens when you are in pain.

By the end of the session we were best friends.

It's getting hot in here...

6/23/2010

And the AC is pretty much going nonstop along with a fan. I think I'm losing more water than I'm taking in. It's going to be a long couple of months.

So surreal

6/22/2010

A good friend of mine is a comedian. He was on Last Comic Standing. He was on Last Night's episode. But, I couldn't watch it last night so I watched it tonight.

I watched it while he was sitting by me.

It was a very surreal moment.

Where do my loyalties lie?

It is hard when you are faced with two distinctly different cultures which you find allegiances to. They are so completely different that it is hard to reconcile the two. I mean, there is nothing that is the same. I love both in so many different ways and I always feared the day that I would have to choose between them.

Today I had to face this fear. And it was very difficult to even consider it.

Luckily I didn't have to decide.

Italy-1 vs New Zealand-1

Good thing I didn't have to choose between my two heritages.

Mermaid Parade

I had no idea that there is a mermaid parade on Coney Island every year. I went today and naturally did not take any pictures of the actual parade. But I did take a picture of the beach and the Mermaid Street sign.

(For those "mermaids" out there. It was taken for you.)

Diners

6/18/2010

Diners don't really exist in Utah. In New York they are everywhere. New York diners are amazing. They are always open. And they have everything you could possibly ever want. And, you always get some cool people who frequent the diners. Especially late at night. Ya, they are awesome.

Yet, another interesting phone call at work...

6/17/2010

I had to call a car insurance place for a client to verify some information. This particular client is a male. As I was speaking with the representative on the other line I realized that it was obvious to the lady that I am female. She had to verify the sex of each individual on the policy. She verified the wife as female and said that "I" was female.

She had to ask if we were legally married.

I had to clarify that "I" was male.

I'm sure she is still confused.

Or she just thinks I am weird.

Moments of bliss

6/16/2010

One night I was delirious. In my moment of deliriousness I came up with a saying: love is when you find what you are looking for.

Since moving to New York I have discovered Netflix. I don't know why I didn't have Netflix before. It is amazing. I have found love.

Phone call

6/15/2010

We got a random phone call today. Someone called for the Garden of Eden.

I told them they should have tried several centuries ago.

Words of Wisdom

Word to the wise: Don’t lose your metrocard.
Word to the unwise: Call (212) 638-7622 and the MTA will refund your money for being so absent-minded.

Pillars of the Earth

6/13/2010

When I lived in Rome, Brittany and I became interested in the books of Ken Follett. One of the books that I enjoyed the most was his book Pillars of the Earth. I read in Variety last week that they were making it into a mini-series to be broadcast on HBO.

I picked up a Rolling Stones at a friend's house this evening and it was confirmed once again. Here is part of the article:

The best part of the article was the line "because Starz landed this big-budget miniseries based on the Ken Follett airport-paperback saga of the Middle Ages." See, whenever new missionaries arrived in Rome, Brittany and I would go to the airport with my parents to get the missionaries. But in reality, Brittany and I actually went to buy more of Ken Follett's books as that was the only place we could buy his books in all of Rome.

Cockroaches

6/12/2010

The cockroaches come outside now that the weather is warm. I need to remember not to wear flip flops as several almost ran over my feet while walking. I'm now very careful where I walk.

The plus side: at least they aren't inside.

Floss

6/11/2010

I spent the night at a friend's house so I packed an overnight bag which included my floss. Never in my life have people ever asked me if I happen to have floss. Today, of all days, I had floss and three people were blessed because of it.

Caffeine Cocktail

6/10/2010

Sometimes I stay up to late. Sometimes I'm tired while at work. So, sometimes I drink caffeine.

Today was such a case. I have a Crystal Light energy drink that comes in a packet and you mix with water.

But today I needed a strong flavor. So I mixed the energy with a normal Rasberry Ice. It was delicious. And I stayed awake.

Rain

6/9/2010

Rain in New York + flip flops = very wet pants

Efficiency

6/8/2010

I was so efficient at work today. So much so that I came up with three blog post ideas.

Blisters

6/7/2010

I didn't realize my foot still has a blister. But the shoes I wore decided to remind me. And it hurt.

So, I decided to be thrifty and I made myself a bandaid at work out of a napkin and packing tape.

It totally helped.

Trader Joe's

It is confirmed that a Trader Joe's will be opening this year on 21st Street and 6th Avenue. The question, then, is if you understand how great this is for me...

Goals

6/5/2010

My goals today were to sleep all day, go shopping for some food and maybe get the gym. Not only did I achieve my goals, but I was very successful at all of them.

New York City

I'm home.

Laundry

6/3/2010

I decided to do a load of laundry before I head back to New York. I threw my clothes in and when it was done I started loading everything into the dryer. Then I realized something. I forgot to put detergent in. I put everything back in the washer.

I guess I forgot how to do laundry. That's what happens when I have people do it for me in New York.

Hmmmm...

6/2/2010

I'm not going to lie. I really have nothing to blog today.

Ben and Jerry's Half Baked FroYo

6/1/2010

I haven't been able to find my favorite flavor of frozen yogurt in New York, even though they have some Ben and Jerry flavors. So I went to the store to pick some up.

There wasn't any.

What a cruel, cruel world.

This is what happens when you kick a rugby ball with sandals on.

The Race

5/30/2010

I can feel the physical affects from the race yesterday.
