Cultural Honesty

9/17/2010

A fellow classmate said the following to me when I arrived to class today:

"This summer has been good to you. You look like you have lost weight. I'm Indian and the first thing people will tell you is always related to your weight. You can tell you have increased your fitness activity."

Now, let us backtrack to five years ago when I had a similar situation with much different words while living in Italy.

An Italian neighbor said the following to me during a visit:

"You were fat before but not like you are now!"

Take that, Antonietta!
