Almond Butter

1/30/2011

In an attempt to me more health conscious I decided to substitute peanut butter with Almond Butter. It doesn't compare to Peanut Butter.

I will forever be loyal to PB.

You have been great. Really. But, you are no substitute for Pandora.

Only three more days...

Tax Season

Another reminder that it is tax season: six boxes of paper were delivered to the office. That's ten reams per box and 500 pages per ream. That makes for a grand total of 30,000 pieces of paper.

30,000 pieces of paper.

Snow and elevators

1/27/2011

It snowed. So, getting lunch was an adventure. I had to brave the streets.

Good thing I wore my gumboots.

I had to step in a 3 inch puddle that was by the curb. I ran into my boss on the way back as she just stood there looking at the puddle. Then I was in the elevator to get back up to my office and the elevator didn't move.

I didn't care. I had food.

It was only a matter of time.

I figured I would get caught eventually. I had seen the posters that gave strict instructions on what to do and what not to do. I guess I wanted to see how long it would take until someone noticed.

And said something.

I was sitting at my desk when a knock was heard on the door. A man in a uniform was standing there. It wasn't like a classy uniform but one of a working man. I was a bit suspicious and wondered if it was related.

It was.

He said that someone needed to fix it. I told him I would handle it. I don't think he realized it was me that did it.

It only took me about five minutes. But, I was able to break down all the boxes and put them in the dumpster.

Today was a big day

A lot of important things happened today:

-Classes started. (I should actually say class started. To which I was late to.)
-The Oscar noms came out today.
-I saw a man with a dog on his shoulders walking.
-I had a subway sandwich for lunch.
-Macy's has a paper display in their windows.
-I saw a man wearing Uggs.
-I saw Edward Cullen if I would have casted Twilight.
-I used up my 40 hours of my Pandora stations...
-for which I discovered grooveshark.com.
-Brittany is officially in my time zone. Now she knows how boring mornings are because you can't text anyone as they are all asleep.

Being Efficient

1/24/2011

The semester is about to start so time is of the essence. That means when I'm at the gym. I decided today was a day to multi-task.

Castle. At 10pm. While running. At the gym.

Success.

Glad I got this email.

Glad I got this reminder. Good thing I'm not serving anymore.

Peanut Butter

1/22/2011

I'm addicted. Have been for awhile. I love it. Can't help it. I should probably just stop buying it.

But I won't.

What you can do when you have a cast on your foot and no boot. This would definitely work.

My Will

1/20/2011

Brittany, as usual, has been helping me with an application for school in the fall. She is helping to edit and review my stuff. As we were going over some things. I had a thought. I emailed her the following:

You do realize that if anything happens to me you are required to send
my application in for me. And, technically, I bet if something DID
happen to me you can use my identity and get and MFA yourself. In
fact, use this email as documentation that my will is for you to do so
if something happens to me anytime between now and June of 2013.

Brittany's response:

Yes, if something does happen to you, I'll still submit your application.

May you all be witnesses to this illegal activity that will never actually take place.

Changing taste buds

I have always hated mushrooms. I will always pick them out. Except lately.

I am going through a streak where I enjoy fresh/raw mushrooms. Still can't stand cooked/dried/whatever other kind of mushrooms there are. But, raw mushrooms are actually pretty good.

Just if you wanted to know.

Pandora at work

There are many positive aspects to working with just women.

One that I realized today:

You can play a Spice Girls station and all will enjoy.

Winter in New York.

I bought a space heater. I think I will be able to make it through the winter.

Awards Season

1/16/2011

The awards season has begun. The Golden Globes was a good indication of how well I'm doing at school.

I got 13 correct and was incorrect the other 12.

There goes my education and thousands of dollars with it.

Tetris + Subway = X

It is very difficult to play Tetris on the subway. Just if you wanted to know.

What the...

1/14/2011

I woke up to a strange sound this morning. I thought it was the garbage man outside but it kept going.

And going.

And going.

I realized it was my printer. It decided to turn on and go into the "cleaning" mode.

As we all know, several months ago I received a free printer thanks to my sister-in-law. It runs pretty well although sometimes it jams. But, I can't complain as it was for free.

But now it seems to be possessed.

Now it remains unplugged unless needed.

It has begun.

1/13/2011

We received our first tax docs at work today.

The tax season has officially begun.

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Good morning

Alarm didn't go off today. Yes, I double checked it last night.

Not sure why.

Good thing the snowplows kept going all night as to make me aware of the time.

As I was walking...

1/11/2011

I came across this:

Dear coworkers:

Thank you to the coworker who traded me staplers. I never wanted to "trade" as my stapler was terrible. But, now that you have switched mine to a better one, I will not complain. Nor take back the old one.

Sincerley,

ashley

Survival Mode

My apartment was so cold today. I don't know why the heater is turned off when it snows.

My only thought, then, was to get warm. I kept thinking that if you move around you get warm.

So I went to the gym.

I was warm for about an hour.

Now I'm cold again.

Honorary Blog Post

1/7/2011

Brittany emailed me the following. I felt it appropriate to post as a blog:

I need to tell you about the gives and takes from the bathroom. I think
my bathroom here at work represents life.

Stall number one flushes well but the door doesn't close.

Stall number two doesn't flush very well, I have to flush a few times.

But, the door closes.

Stall number three flushes too soon - I always lose the seat cover
before I even sit down. But, it always flushes really well on the first
attempt and the door is tight and secure.

Stall number four is the handicap stall. I never use that one because I
haven't 'earned' it. The one time I used the handicap stall I
inevitably walked out and the lady in the wheelchair was waiting for me
to finish. She is paralyzed from the waste down which benefited me. I
would have felt even worse if I saw her leg shaking.

I had to make a decision on which stall is worse. I couldn't handle the
door not closing and I was embarrassed about having to flush multiple
times. The handicap stall was a non-option. So, I go with stall number
3. I have learned to not put the seat cover down until I'm ready to go
down with it.

In life there isn't just one perfect stall. We have to pick and choose
the best option and sometimes we have to make a small adjustment in
order to make it perfect.

What is that?

I was sitting on my couch when I noticed something was off. I collect glass bottles, see. And, I have a shelf where I display them. But, there was an extra bottle. One that I didn't recognize. It was a Snapple bottle. I don't drink Snapple often.

Thanks to T, I get to remember her everyday now. T and her mom stayed at my place while I was home for the holidays. I figured I would prefer someone watching my place so it was a win-win for me.

And, I won even more as I have a new bottle on display :)

Thanks T!

Jetlag

1/5/2011

Around 11:30 am I was starving. I was at work so it was a bit difficult to get something. Plus, I ate breakfast before I got there. I couldn't figure out why.

And then I did the math.

I would have been waking up at home and eating breakfast at that time.

Welcome back to New York, Ashley.

Naturally...

1/4/2011

I had two pieces of luggage on my way back to the city. The first was one of the first to come out of the plane.

Naturally, the second was one of the last.

Oh, the life I lead...

It has been great being home as I have been able to relax. I have become quite comfortable with relaxing. So, when I had to go out today, I facetiously asked my mom, "how would you feel if I went out without makeup on today?"

Her response, "you never know!" (For those that know my mom, you know exactly what this means.)

Needless to say, I put makeup on.

Duties of an Aunt

1/2/2011

Today's duties included warming the hands of my nieces as they took their gloves off when they were playing in the snow.

Who took the Ginger Ale?

Mom opened up a can of Ginger Ale a few minutes ago. She left the room and came back in to drink it. To her surprise, it was empty.

"Who took my Ginger Ale?"

Laughter burst out of Chelsea.

We looked in her cup that she was drinking as she responded with a huge smile, "Ginger Ale."

Starting the year off right

12/31/2010

Do I organize my things on New Year's Eve to start the New Year's already organized?

Or, do I organize my things on New Year's Day, starting it off organizing?
