I hate the Dentist
I can't decide which is worse: The dentist office or the fact that the Titanic theme song was playing in the dentist office. Both make me shudder.
Chicken Quesadilla
7/27/2010
Yesterday at work a coworker bought a chicken quesadilla for lunch. It looked so tasty and smelt heavenly. So, I decided to follow her and get one for myself at the place that she got it.
Bad idea. I won't be going back.
I'm cursed thanks to Cafe Rio.

Caroline Rhea
7/26/2010
I went to a comedy show tonight and Caroline Rhea headlined. (If you don't know who that is then google her and feel ashamed.) It was a very small audience, about 20 people or so. In such an environment, she was able to really interact with us.
Her interaction with me was to set me up with someone in the room. She was particularly fond of Steve (38 and an actor) and Andrew (24 and a software developer).
It was very entertaining.

No Smoking Please
7/25/2010
I don't generally mind when people smoke. Sometimes I get annoyed when I get the left over smoke but I tend to see it coming so I can step away.
However, if you smoke, I ask for a favor. When getting rid of your cigarette, don't flick it at a wooden garbage can. I'm a bit more paranoid with the thought of fire. Cancer, not so much. But fire...

Dear MTA,
Please let me know when you switch the "R" train to the "N" line so I don't end up in Brooklyn looking for a way to get to Governor's Island. Yes, I enjoyed walking around but it really was hot so another day would have been better.
I know we get along most of the time but I just felt like I needed to mention this. No hard feelings of course. I just hope we can have better communication from here on out.
Thanks,
ashley

Venting Session
I vowed to never turn this blog into a venting session. There is too much other, pointless stuff to discuss. But, today, I have to make a stand.
Serenity was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. K, maybe not the worst but I wasn't happy with it. Now, to be fair, I had expectations going in. But they weren't even close to being met! I mean, what moon does Joss Whedon think he is from?
As you can tell by now, I was probably a bit too involved with the characters lives. I feel I became a part of their world the past 14-episodes-of-Firefly-and-Serenity-movie. And now it is done. And really, ain't that what I am venting about? 'Cause I don't do good with change and having to live my life now don't make it easy.

Why, why, why????

Why do I insist on taking the red-eye back to New York from Salt Lake? I can never make it through the next day, especially if I work.
I did make it through five hours of work today, though. At the five hour mark my boss turned to me and said I was free to leave if I was too tired. I took her up on it.

I forgot how much I love Utah summer weather with no humidity, clear skies and the ability to actually see the sun.
Until next year, Utah.

Family

Dear Wil and Zibby,
Please stop putting Zibby's panties in the toilet.
Love,
Aunt Ashley
A conversation with Wil (6-years-old)
"Wil, you look suspicious."
"What does suspicious mean?"
"It means you have done something and you know it."
He smiles and nods.
He leaves the room, returning a few minutes later.
With a grin, "I'm suspicious."

Inception

Where's my "like" button for blogspot?
P.S. I have to think Christopher Nolan knew what he was doing when he cast Marion Cotillard and used the song "La Vie en Rose" sung by Edith Piaf to wake the characters in the film. Marion Cotillard played Edith Piaf in the 2008 film of the same title, winning Best Actress for her role. And, if we are talking about what is reality in the different levels of dreaming, there seems to be a connection with this film and Inception.

Venice LaWana Davis Pacini
October 21, 1927-July 5, 2010
LaWana Davis Pacini passed away peacefully on Monday, 5 July 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born in Malad City, Idaho on 21 Oct 1927, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area as a young teenager where she lived until coming to Salt Lake City in 2006. She worked until her only child Craig was born. Her employers included J.C. Penny’s, Shell Oil, and Magnins, where she was a high fashion model in San Francisco. She graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco and received her Associate of Arts degree with highest honors from Cañada College in Redwood City, California in 1980. She enjoyed playing tennis both in college and in local tennis clubs winning many tournament championships.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully as a secretary in the Primary and Relief Society, as Ward Librarian, and as a member of her ward choir. She could also be seen at Education Week and Know Your Religion, always trying to improve herself.
She travelled to all the populated continents, most many times over, and especially enjoyed her many years of attending Wimbeldon as a spectator. In later years she enjoyed taking her family on trips to many parts of the world, especially when there were roller coaster rides that she could participate in. Now released from her earthly restrictions she can once again play tennis but this time on heavenly courts.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Clem and Venice Davis), her husband of 56 years (Roy) and a great-grandson (Joseph). She is survived by her son Craig (Julie); seven grandchildren Joseph (Rosalene), Aaron (Shalene), Jamie Carrier (Benji), Ashley, Brittany (fiance’ Chris da Silva), Benjamin (Laura), and Chelsea; nine great-grandchildren (Joshua, William, Kaylie, Christoper, Elizabeth, Brinley, Met, Amelia, and Wyatt; and a sister Connie Marsh. As Chelsea said the day before her passing, “Grandmother is going to be with Jesus.”
Special thanks to those who provided for her comfort – Cyndi Sheffield, Dr. Carole Baraldi, Brighton Gardens, and CareSource.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17th at 2:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary (260 East South Temple in Salt Lake City) with a viewing an hour before and on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hunstman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT are appreciated.

Going through things
7/15/2010
My sisters and I went through some of Grandma's things tonight to see if we wanted anything or what we should get rid of. There were a few treasures among her things including an awesome sixties-style coat that I couldn't help but admire. I was so excited to show my brother and sister-in-law that I wore it back to my parents house.
Ya, apparently they had gifted it to her a few years ago and she had never worn it. The tag was still attached and so they decided to take it back.
So much for keeping the awesome treasure.

Dinner Time
7/13/2010
I didn't realize my iPod was still on when I was at dinner. I must have thought I turned it off on my walk to the restaurant but in reality I didn't. I noticed I was on song 14 of my playlist of 64 songs. When I pulled out my iPod to walk home I was on song 44.
I'm not sure if that means my dinner was too long or it should have been longer. Hmmm....

In search...

We all have them. We all have certain things in our lives that bring us joy and contentment. Moving to New York made me afraid I wouldn't be able to find some of my favorite things and I have become okay with that. But, that doesn't mean that every so often, when I am in need of such things, I don't look anyway.
Good thing the feeling to go in the Deli across the street was strong enough to test my curiosity. I had never gone in this particular deli before. No sooner than I entered, there I saw it.
Ben and Jerry's Half Baked Fro Yo.

Lady Gaga was in NYC this past week. Come to find out several family members and my boss are all closet Gaga fans.
Can we all agree that she is pretty brilliant?

I always enjoy going to the gym, especially when sports events are on. I feel like I am in the stands with the other fans. It really is a bonding moment.
Today's fans were definitely supporting Spain. Good thing, too. I would have been afraid for my life if they would have lost with all the adrenaline pumping...

Saving some pennies
I realized that it is cheaper to buy a ticket and to take my laundry to Columbia, Maryland to my brother and sister-in-law's house than it is to pay for my laundry to be done in New York.
I may be going to Maryland again sooner than anticipated...

Thanks to Becky and Marcus. (You both are EXACTLY right, by the way. That was EXACTLY what I said, in that order...)
Now, for those of you who read my blog and did NOT caption (*cough* cousin *cough*), you can thank Becky and Marcus.
And now back to business as usual.
