In honor of the Royal Wedding, a text message conversation between Brittany and me.
Brittany: I thought the dress was beautiful. Chris agreed and said it was nice, too. So much so that he would even wear it. Haha.
Ashley: What dress?
Brittany: Kate Middleton's dress.
Brittany: Why am I so surprised that you didn't follow the wedding? Even talking about a random dress, I would assume you knew what I was referring to. I guess that just means that you have a life.
Ashley: Success of Cambridge?
Brittany: Success of Cambridge?
Ashley: Stupid Auto Correct - Duchess of Cambridge. Isn't that the title she got now that she is married?
Brittany: Success of Cambridge, I thought you were saying that that was the name of the dress. Haha!
Brittany: That's what I would call it at least.

Taking one for the team
4/28/2011
A coworker says that the world works in balance. This means that when someone is having a bad day, somewhere else someone is having a good day.
I woke up feeling sick. I don't get sick that often so it was a surprise. But, I had to get to work.
I have been taking my umbrella everywhere I go along with my trench coat because the weather has been crazy. But, I didn't want to today for some reason.
Within 30 seconds of leaving my apartment I saw a big flash followed by rolling thunder. Shortly thereafter it started to downpour. It rained from 26th street to 31st street.
What a pitiful sight I was when I got to work. Wet and sick.
Someone, somewhere else, I'm sure is having a great day.

A day of celebration
4/25/2011
Sometimes there are days that simply need to be celebrated. Today is one.
Of the various subway rides I took today, I made each train within seconds of its departing, including a train that I took by mistake. I made it home in record time.
Go subways.

That was lucky.
Charlye and I decided to see the matinee showing of Jersey Boys. We had to be at the Box Office around 10 am to get student rush tickets.
I got there a bit before Charlye so purchased the tickets as they were going fast. I started walking towards Charlye after the purchase as she was close to the theatre. When I got to her I was going to have her turn around and walk in the direction I was going which was towards the subway.
But I couldn't find my metrocard.
I had just filled it so it had plenty of funds on it. It wasn't in my pockets or my purse.
It was gone.
I was slightly disappointed.
I explained this to Charlye and she asked if I wanted to retrace my steps. I said I did even though I'm sure it was a lost cause. So we turned around.
As we were crossing the street, Charlye said, "is that it?" and pointed to the ground. There was a metro card. I didn't even see it. I figured if anywhere, it would be on the corner when I pulled my phone out of my pocket, thinking it got stuck on my phone for a second and then fell off somewhere on the sidewalk.
I bent down and picked it up thinking it was probably an old one that someone just threw out.
Nope, it was mine. I could tell.
By the time we got to the subway it was dried off from the rain and being in the wet road.
And all the funds were there.

The Other Guys
4/22/2011
The Other Guys is currently streamable on Netflix. However ridiculous it might be, I found it hilarious, LOLing at various moments. I couldn't help myself.
Best part is: they filmed several of the scenes by my apartment. In fact, the scene where Christopher Danson and P.K. Highsmith jump off the building is literally on the corner of Broadway and 25th. You can see the 40/40 club in the shot (if you need proof).
Ya, pretty sure I saw them filming that last summer. In fact, I probably blogged about it.
But I'm too lazy to look at my past posts to see if I did.
(If there is someone out there that would like the challenge, the post would have been about filming a scene with stunts and cranes holding the stunt lines. Good luck.)

A bit of conversation
4/21/2011
I never talk to the cashiers that scan your food at the grocery store. But, for some reason I decided to have a simple conversation with Jed.
Jed is currently working at Trader Joe's and is currently applying for a volunteer position at The Met. He also hopes to be a professor of ancient civilizations.
Jed, good luck with life. Thanks for sharing a moment with me.

I'm in charge of ordering supplies for the office. Water. Paper towels. Labels. Paper. You name it. I keep an eye on things and if they seem to be low then I'll place an order.
At least that's the concept.
But, it creates a bit of a dilemma if you run out of papers towels, say, on Monday, order more that morning and wait until Wednesday by which it should have arrived but had not. I figured by 2 pm that it would arrive at anytime even though normally it arrives in the morning.
Nothing.
Still waited.
That is until a coworker asked me to call the company and see where the delivery was. I got online to the website and noticed something in the shopping cart.
I never submitted the order.
Uh...
I made a quick run to the corner store and submitted the actual order.
Lesson: Never order anything when you are sick. And, if you have to, make sure you actually hit the submit button.

Being "that" kind of assistant
4/18/2011
You hear horror stories of personal assistants being woken up at 3 am to get something for the boss or always doing random things here and there. But, I have never experienced that with my boss. I keep normal hours and generally stay at the office. I'll do personal things for her here and there but that is the nature of the job. But, I have never had to make a coffee run for her. Well, until now when she asked me to buy some coffee for her.
Granted, it was online and was a coffee kit being sent to her parents. So, really it wasn't like those assistants that get the coffee for the boss all the time. But, I can now say that I got my boss coffee at her request :)

I watched an episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Aziz Ansari was on. He mentioned that he moved back to New York for the culture and restaurants. At one point he went to a restaurant where Fifty Cent was dining. He was listening to the conversation between a waiter giving the specials and Fifty Cent when all of a sudden, Fifty Cent asked the waiter a question:
"Ladies and gentlemen, we will be landing shortly. Please buckle your seat belts."
Aziz couldn't believe that Fifty Cent asked that question. What question? Thanks to the pilot, I don't even know what the question was!
Rrrr!!! Darn PA systems putting what you listen to on hold while the in-flight crew make announcements...

Happy Birthday to me

I woke up to the sunny New York skyline with breakfast in bed. I even had a free striptease dance. I clamored with clowns, flew over the Amazon while later walked the streets of Venice and ate dinner at a Paris café. What an ideal day.
Our Vegas hotel is across from New York, New York hotel and there were no seats at the breakfast table. My cute little nieces thought it would be hilarious to run away from my sister when she was trying to get them dressed. We went to Circus, Circus where we watched a 4D film of Dora the Explorer where she and Diego rode an airplane over the Amazon looking for a crazed butterfly robot. (Don’t worry, they found it.) We walked the strip and had dinner outside, across from the Bellagio. After the sun went down we had the perfect view of the fountain show. Amazing.

Another random phone call at work
4/13/2011
Today's winner goes to the lady, after me answering the phone, stating the name of the company and my name, asking if we had clam chowder.
"Would you like red or white with your order?"

Covering all my bases
I got my taxes done several weeks ago. My federal refund came through shortly after. But, I've been waiting for my state refund.
I started panicking after I remember sending my federal return but not my state. It's okay though, I have a copy.
Copy the copy. Check. Send in the copy. Check.
And, in an ironic twist, my state refund was deposited into my account today.
44 cents isn't that much to lose I suppose...

Goal: No sleep
4/9/2011
Go to bed at 5:30 am.
Wake up at 9.
How much (lack) of sleep can I survive on?
A lot more than I thought...

My data stopped working on my phone. It just stopped. Which is very frustrating for me.
I stopped into the phone store after work and a guy looked at it.
Apparently I had turned off the mobile network without realizing it. Uh....
(In my defense, I never would have figured out that was the problem.)

Jokes on me
Three dancers got on the subway car to dance for money. I had my phone in my hand playing free cell but the dancer saw me and thought I was recording. I shook my head to indicate that I wasn't going to record. Then, I decided to record.
Too bad I didn't hit my camcorder app but hit camera instead. Oh well. Proof that I'm not lying I guess...

Craft Services
4/4/2011
A movie was being filmed close to my apartment. As in, really close. As in, the craft service table was outside my apartment door.
It didn't help when I was walking in and realized I have no food in my apartment.

Apologies for the screen. I didn't have time to adjust my camera before her dance.
What a cruel trick

Thanks, Mother Nature, for such a great April Fool's trick. The snow and rain really threw everyone off.
